The Challenge: Customizing an Expensive Concrete Wall

The client at Century Village envisioned a wall covered in lush, growing vines for a natural, soft look. However, the existing perimeter was a beautiful, expensive, solid concrete wall. Drilling directly into it posed risks to the wall’s integrity. The challenge was to create a vine bypass solution that was secure, durable, and minimally invasive.

The Bell and Son Solution: Manufactured Innovation

Our team had to manufacture a system that met all the client’s needs while protecting the underlying structure. We engineered a customized 16-gauge wire mesh chain link fence system specifically for this purpose:

• 16-Gauge Wire Mesh: This material was chosen for its ideal balance of strength and flexibility. It provides the perfect grid for vines to grip and climb, yet is light enough to minimize stress on the wall.
• Minimalist Drilling: Our experts meticulously drilled into the concrete wall at specific, structurally sound locations to anchor the posts and framework.
• Custom Framework: The mesh was installed on a custom, standoff framework that holds the wire slightly away from the concrete surface. This crucial gap allows the vines to grow behind the mesh and provides proper air circulation, preventing moisture buildup against the wall.

A Seamless and Secure Installation

The final result is a discreet yet robust solution. The fine 16-gauge mesh provides ample climbing structure, allowing the new plantings to eventually cover the wall and achieve the natural aesthetic the client desired, all without compromising the integrity of the expensive concrete perimeter.
